Innovation through transformation at Baumüller

In an interview, Michael Prax, Head of Industrial Engineering at Baumüller, explains what transformation means to him.

"To keep up internationally, you can't always do the same thing." - Michael Prax

For the Baumüller Group, whose roots lie in the Nuremberg metropolitan region, constant transformation and further development are therefore important components of the innovation process. To this day, the headquarters of the leading manufacturer of electrical automation and drive systems is located in Nuremberg. Around 2,000 employees develop and produce highly innovative system solutions for mechanical engineering and the e-mobility of the future at production sites in Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, India and China as well as in more than 40 branches worldwide.

Transformation and innovation go hand in hand, because sustainable products require constant further development. This is why the drive system manufacturer works true to the motto ‘be in motion’ in order to continuously advance new solutions.

But what exactly is transformation?

In an interview from the transform_emn project, Michael Prax, Head of Industrial Engineering at the Baumüller Group, explains what transformation means to him.

What does transformation mean for your company?

‘Change is inevitable - and I see it more as an opportunity. We are operating in a highly competitive environment. You have to constantly try out new things and help shape future trends. To keep up, you can't just sit there and always do the same thing.’

Does the will to transform have to emerge first?

‘It is important to look ahead and continue to develop. Transformation happens every day: By working to make things work better and run more beautifully.’

What specific changes are there?

‘In mobility, but also in industry, electrification continues to gain ground. This allows us to increase the efficiency of systems, reduce energy consumption and make our contribution to the production of the future. That's why I see the transformation as a growth driver, especially in our industry.’

How do you personally deal with transformation?

‘As an Industrial Engineer, I am responsible for ensuring that the operating resources for our production interlock perfectly. New things inspire me. That's why I welcome every employee who communicates openly and contributes their own ideas.’
