Innovative drive technology from the Baumüller high-tech forge
The Baumüller Technikum in Nuremberg is much more than a development center - as a creative innovation hub in the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region, it combines development rooms with exhibition areas where the electric drive and automation systems of the future are created. This is where employees work on trade fair exhibits, which the company will present at SPS 2024 from 12 to 14 November.
From prototype to trade fair: Ideas factory for automation and drive technology
The center of technology development at Baumüller is the technical center in Nuremberg. In this modern “INNOHub” in the metropolitan region, interdisciplinary teams of experts work on innovative solutions for automation technology and drive the development of prototypes, simulations and software. “The atmosphere in the technical center is a dream. It immediately makes my team want to create something new,” says Frank Kästner, Team Leader for Robotics, Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Industry 4.0. Together with his team, he has developed the Shock Detection function specifically for use in shredders and plastics machines. It extends the service life of the mechanics and prevents imminent blockages and possible overloading of the drive train. The new function will be presented at SPS. Sebastian Maul, application engineer at Baumüller, particularly appreciates the creative and open working environment in the technical center. “We can extensively test and optimize technologies here - from servo presses for the automotive industry to handling systems for toy production. Everything we develop here flows into specific customer solutions.” The direct connection to the Baumüller Academy creates valuable synergy effects. Customers and employees can experience the technologies live in the technical center after training at the academy.
A team full of drive
Teamwork is very important at the Technikum. “What fascinates me is that everyone here is there for everyone else. Everyone pulls together and supports each other when problems arise,” says Sebastian Maul. Different departments work closely together. This teamwork is also an important success factor in the development of new sustainable technologies. Sebastian Maul and his team are currently working intensively on ways to convert data from drivetrains into usable information in order to reduce energy consumption in production. “We want to make mechanical engineering more sustainable,” he emphasizes. The focus on sustainable solutions will also be evident at SPS 2024, where Baumüller will be presenting “Smart Energy Monitoring” - software that monitors and optimizes the energy consumption of machines without additional hardware, thus helping companies to make their production processes more environmentally friendly.
Baumüller at the SPS 2024
Baumüller cordially invites you to discover the latest innovations and results of the work in the technical center at the SPS. From November 12 to 14, 2024, you will have the opportunity to experience “Next Level Drive Intelligence” live in hall 1 at booth 560.
Europe's most innovative region – also because of the INNOHubs
The Baumüller Technikum is one of many INNOHubs in the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region that showcase the broad network of laboratories, competence centers, workshops and think tanks. At www.innovationskunst.de/en/stories/innohubs, people from science and industry give an insight into their innovative work. They are all part of the reason why the metropolitan region is one of the most innovative regions in Europe.
