“The Impulse” receives Amberg’s “Green House Number” seal of quality
Siemens visitor center “The Impulse” is recognized as a sustainable building by the city of Amberg.
The Siemens visitor center “The Impulse” receives the “Green House Number” from the city of Amberg. Amberg's mayor Michael Cerny presented the award to Hans-Peter Scharl, spokesman for the Siemens Amberg site management. The seal of quality, which has been awarded since 2003, is awarded to particularly sustainable buildings in Amberg and has so far only been awarded to twelve residential and four non-residential buildings. When awarding a contract to non-residential buildings, issues such as energy efficiency and resource conservation, as well as the involvement of employees and their environmentally conscious behavior, also play a key role. “The Siemens visitor center 'The Impulse' is a beacon that shines far beyond the Amberg region,” said Mayor Cerny. “And not only as a showcase for digital transformation, but also as a climate-neutral building from the start that uses the most modern technologies in the spirit of the Smart City Amberg in order to be sustainable.”
Site manager Scharl and the Impulse team were happy about the award. “With the 'Green House Number' of the city of Amberg, 'The Impulse' is now also showing from the outside that sustainability, nature and climate protection are among the central issues for us - in the building and in the technologies that are developed and tested here and that Siemens “Customers from all over the world are presented,” says Scharl.
The Siemens visitor center “The Impulse” opened in 2021. Since then, well over 10,000 guests from all over the world have been inspired here every year by the latest developments in industrial digitalization. In the integrated development center, startups work together with Siemens engineers on the innovations of tomorrow. And, designed as a meeting place, Siemens experts meet with the company's customers to work together to develop solutions for the production of the future.
For Siemens Real Estate, the group's real estate company, sustainability played a crucial role in the conception, planning and construction of "The Impulse" from day one. Planned with a digital twin, the construction could be realized in a particularly resource-saving manner. As a smart building, it is now operated particularly energy-efficiently - particularly through the use of photovoltaics on the roof, innovative ventilation, cooling and heating technology as well as permanent optimization with the help of artificial intelligence. The technological approaches and solutions presented in the visitor center also show how digitalization can contribute to greater sustainability in the transformation of industry. Among other things, the site has developed the “SiGreen” software solution, which can control CO₂ emissions throughout the entire supply chain.
Just a few weeks after its opening, “The Impulse” was certified gold according to the international standard for sustainable buildings LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). This was followed by awards for accessibility with the “Bayern barrier-free” sign from the Bavarian state government as well as a “German Brand Award” for the visitor experience and branding.
“The Impulse” now opens its doors to the interested public once a quarter from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Additional campaigns such as a “give away cupboard” for items to be given away on the company premises raised employees’ awareness of a sustainable circular economy. From thermos flasks to toys to bicycle computers, many things have already found new, happy owners there.
