K3I-Cycling: an innovation laboratory of the BMBF funding measure AI application hub for plastic packaging

Fraunhofer IIS invites you to the Open Hub Day as part of the BMBF funding measure AI Application Hub Plastic Packaging.

  • When? On November 7, 2024 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Where? At JOSEPHS - The Open Innovation Lab (Augustinerstr. 19, 90403 Nuremberg)

To the registration

K3I-Cycling

The aim of K3I-Cycling [pronounced: kiː] is to significantly improve the mechanical recycling of post-consumer plastic packaging waste in terms of quantity and quality. The K3I-Cycling innovation lab looks at all process steps along the value chain, from waste collection, logistics and sorting through to recyclate production. To this end, K3I-Cycling is using an artificial neural twin (ANT) to develop a new, open and standardizable AI interface that allows distributed process steps to communicate with each other and performs both process monitoring and process optimization tasks in a decentralized manner.

More about K3I-Cycling

Focus topics

  • New technological breakthroughs in AI
  • How communicating machines make processes better
  • Efficient recycling with AI: how pre-trained AI models are making our world more sustainable
  • DangerSort: a sorting system for detecting and sorting lithium-ion batteries from waste streams
  • AI-based recycling from the perspective of privacy and environmental ethics

Various expert presentations and live demonstrations will present the focus topics of the project and introduce the innovations developed.
