Innovative Electromobility: Siemens welcomes the new Volvo E-Truck and sets standards in sustainable logistics
The e-scooter has reached the end of its service, making way for its successor: Siemens Smart Infrastructure has retired its longtime electric vehicle after six years and introduced a new Volvo E-Truck. This transition represents a significant step in their commitment to emission-free logistics, continuing a 2018 pilot project for sustainable regional transportation.
The new Volvo E-Truck, one of the first in the Nuremberg metropolitan region, offers double the range and ten times the payload of its predecessor. With an annual CO₂ saving of around 15 tons and an extended daily delivery route, it highlights Siemens' advancements in eco-friendly logistics.
Long-time logistics partner Bezold GmbH, which helped configure the original StreetScooter, continues to play a key role. The project, supported by the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg, is praised as a "win-win-win" initiative, benefiting all stakeholders and providing practical learning opportunities for students.
Siemens' focus on e-mobility aligns with its sustainability goals under the DEGREE framework, demonstrating a commitment to reducing CO₂ emissions and improving air quality and noise levels in the region. The new E-Truck will be charged using Siemens' eMobility infrastructure, further supporting the global sustainability targets.
