Innovationskunst (the art of innovation) in Amberg: the AI machine
With the use of artificial intelligence (AI), the Amberg appliance factory is setting new standards in automated switchgear testing. The AI specialists in special machine construction at the Amberg appliance plant have developed an innovative system that automatically separates 19 variants of switch components, checks them using artificial intelligence and then packs them. The contact blocks are components of the low-voltage switchgear that is developed and manufactured at the appliance plant. It is therefore of the utmost importance that the switch components are in perfect condition and fully functional. This is because the low-voltage switchgear are the ‘hidden champions’ of energy distribution. Their task is to switch, protect, monitor and control industrial power consumers and without them, all wheels would literally grind to a halt.
When designing and realising their idea, the experts relied on AI for quality control. They also developed a flexible feed technology in combination with linear motor axes and simulated the system with the Siemens NX CAD/CAM/CAE system and the Siemens TIA Portal digital control tool right through to virtual commissioning.
The project sets new standards for production and continues to drive digitalization at the Amberg equipment plant, says special machine builder Felix Uebelhack.
