The Nuremberg Metropolitan Region is Europe's most innovative region and inspires people who want to shape the future with technology. An above-average number of patent applications, a high employment rate in knowledge-intensive and seminal sectors and an ideal research environment make the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region one of the most dynamic innovation regions in Europe. This was also confirmed by the European Commission when it named the Region a European Regional Innovation Valley. This is an ideal breeding ground for creativity and innovation, as renowned research institutions, internationally recognised universities and high-tech companies work together successfully. Historically, the region is also the centre of pioneering inventions, such as Behaim's globe, Dürer's theory of proportions and the MP3 format.
